Grammarly Premium Review: The Benefits
Although Grammarly offers both a free and their Premium (paid) version, the features of the Premium version are noticeably more robust.
While the free version offers 150 critical grammar and spelling checks, Grammarly Premium offers an additional 100 ‘advanced’ grammar and spelling checks, personal or business related editors and a plagiarism feature.
Convenience-added benefits include:
- Access your documents on multiple devices
- Detailed explanations of grammar rules
- Access to definitions and synonyms
Specialized features of Grammarly Premium include:
- Tutorials (multiple examples of correct and incorrect grammar within specific rules)
- Explanations of punctuation rules (and common punctuation mistakes)
- Expert guidance on well-known and more subtle (i.e. faulty parallelism) rules of sentence structure
- Advice on a variety of writing styles (not necessarily improper grammar, but guidance to the preferred style of readers).
Two Invaluable Premium Features
Custom Editor
My favorite feature is the customizable editor.
The website’s mention of the software ‘working great with all types of writing: work, personal and academic’ is not enough to understand the real value.
It deserves kudos.
My background is in health and business, but I also enjoy writing essays and am writing an e-book.
I blog and send numerous professional and personal emails daily. I can use a particular editor for all of those.
The editor adapts and provides the above features unique to the genre. A Works cited feature is also available.
The Plagiarism Feature 💕
Another favorite treasure is the plagiarism feature.

There have been occasions when Grammarly Premium recognized a string of 10-12 words from other sites.
While I did create these words, I had the opportunity to edit my phrase.
Then, I knew with confidence that my written words were original (or at least not recognized anywhere by Grammarly Pro).
Grammarly Premium Disadvantages
While Grammarly Premium has a plethora of benefits, Grammarly Premium does not catch every single thing.
Typo examples:
“Although Grammarly offers both a free and their premium (paid) version, the features of the Premium version are noticeably more robust.”
One P is capitalized and not the other but Grammarly Premium does not recognize either one of these as an error.
There also have been times when Grammarly Pro did not recognize a typo or a word out of context in my writing.
Other examples
Grammarly Premium does not completely allow for area dialects or repeated phrases, when writing in a particular genre or when you are purposely making a point.
Writing for local vendors and the use local dialects or phrases may require the user to ‘ignore’ recommendations.
Grammarly Premium does have the ability to add words to your dictionary which can help with this.
Another little weakness noted is with the plagiarism feature.
While testing this feature (by copying and pasting various sentences into the editor), Grammarly Premium did not recognize content very recently published on the Internet.
Grammarly Premium’s customer support clarified, “it doesn’t take long for Grammarly Premiums’ major search engines to properly add and index content within its database.”
Grammarly Premium Encouragement
Every week, a report will be sent highlighting your activity, mastery, and unique vocabulary words, all presented in an encouraging and positive manner.
You also see YOUR top 3 grammatical mistakes. Tabulated in a cumulative format, over time, you may find you have some specific problem areas.
Initially, I thought, they were going to educate me grammatically to the point of not needing their product.
However, I still have Grammarly Premium in my survival gear.
Honestly, I do not see me giving it up anytime soon.
The grammar and punctuation checks and tutorials, the writing style guidance and the customizable editor are features that make writing faster, easier and even more fun!
Moreover, one of Grammarly Premium‘s greatest benefits for a freelance grammar recruit (or even an experienced soldier) is the immediate confidence when there are no corrections suggested!
What is YOUR biggest grammar challenge? Are you going to try Grammarly Premium?

Great Review. I do think more influencers should do in-detail reviews of the software they use. It gives you a great idea of what you can get for your money.I’m quite curios what’s your next big writing project Ariel ?
